Canaries Trust Organises Foodbank collection before Swansea game

The Canaries Trust are pleased to announce that the club have agreed to host a collection on behalf of Norfolk’s Foodbanks. This will take place before the home game against Swansea on Friday March 8th. (7.45pm kick off).

It is anticipated there will be three collection points, one at the Barclay/South Stand  corner, one at the Barclay/City Stand corner and one positioned near to the Club Shop. These will be manned by Foodbank Volunteers with the support of Canaries Trust Board Members. The most needed items are, long life milk, instant mash, tinned potatoes and tinned fruit, so if you are able to bring any of these items along on 8th March it would be very much appreciated, but if you feel you are unable to bring food items to the game there will also be the opportunity to make a cash donation.

The Trust are happy to be able to provide the link between what has become a vital support network for many families and the Football Club. There are 9 separate foodbank charities serving those living within Norfolk who are in crisis. All work on a referral voucher basis to ensure that those using the services are also getting support with the issues they are facing – employment, benefits, debt, housing, etc. Trussell Trust Foodbanks within Norfolk gave out almost 9,500 food parcels (each providing the recipient with at least 3 days of food) during April to September 2018. All items in a food parcel are non-perishable and the majority of foodstuffs are donated by generous members of the public through permanent collection points in supermarkets, churches and one-off collections by schools and businesses.

Hannah Worsley (Project Manager at Norwich Foodbank) said ‘We are all so grateful for the support we receive from our respective communities and have seen how generous football fans are across the country at different matches. We are therefore delighted to have the opportunity to be a part of this movement and hope that both Norwich and Swansea fans alike will be happy to help us to keep feeding people who are in crisis.’

We are also pleased to announce that the Swansea Supporters Trust are also supporting this initiative.
