The Canaries Trust asked fans for their thoughts on the Celebration of Life fixture. The comments received were put to the Club. Below are the comments and the Club’s responses:
I wasn’t able to be there on the 4th, but I think that the Celebration of Life is a really wonderful idea, and I would certainly want to support it in future years. The photos I saw looked really moving. There was a ceremony on the Saturday morning as well as at the Coventry match, wasn’t there? I’d be interested to hear how that went (I am a Church of England priest, so I take funerals and services of remembrance). Thank you for asking this! And I’m gutted that I missed the Forson brace that afternoon, too!
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback. We are very pleased with how the memorial service went and had more attendees than expected. We can only see this event growing and may have to select a larger venue or do multiple services next time around. Thank you to club chaplain, Jon Norman, and Norwich Soul Church for their support in delivering this.
I was at the match and thought it was a lovely idea! I know some people have in the past asked for remembrance at individual matches maybe shortly after a loved one had passed and that was not always possible or might just have been missed or numerous request at one match at different time intervals etc. The annual remembrance seemed like a way to try and acknowledge the loss of supporters over the year and for any loved ones to be present to see, hear and feel the support and recognition from the crowd as a whole. I for one would fully support this as a good way to remember fans who sadly passed away during the year. Well done to all those involved who helped make it happen.
Club Response: This is the reason for why this game was brought in and allows all NCFC fans to get the same level of respect. The club has an internal policy regarding silences and applauses and typically these are reserved for former players, managers or club officials. When there are occasions supporters choose to celebrate a fan's life by holding an applause during a match these are typically organised organically. Owing to the number of supporters that sadly pass each season, we are unable to offer the use of our big screen or conduct silences/applauses unless the club’s internal policy is met. However, we pay tribute to supporters that pass each year via our ‘celebration of life’ fixture which includes a minute’s applause.
The Celebration of Life against Coventry on Saturday was absolutely brilliant. The club did really well considering it was the first one done by the club. Norwich and Coventry fans were both very respectful too it was lovely to see Coventry fans joining in as well. I liked how a yellow wreath was laid on the pitch. Please thank the club for all the effort that went into The Celebration of Life.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture.
The Celebration of Life was a lovely idea, which should be continued each year. Well done to NCFC for undertaking this.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. This is something we will look to repeat on an annual basis.
A friend of mine took part in the celebration of life memorial service and said it was lovely. The one disappointment was that those of us in the Barclay were unable to see their names on the scoreboard as it didn't rotate.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. The names were included on our big screen, ad boards and digi-ribbons which are all the available spaces for digital showing.
I was at the game and the Celebration of Life was wonderful, very moving and a fitting tribute to fans who have passed in the last year. Good to see Delia and Michael involved too.
Club Response: Thank you for your feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. We were keen to involve Delia & Michael as Honorary Life Presidents of the club for the symbolic element of the wreath laying.
I think it was a great idea, very redirect, was nice having full stadium participation too compared to previous few people clap at x minutes which seemed a bit forgotten in the match.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life. We were keen for this to occur ahead of kick-off to enable as many people to take part as possible, as well as for our players and coaching staff to pay their respects.
I thought it was really well carried out and a great idea, could it be made more personal (if families would like this) by the names being accompanied by a photograph, potentially of them supporting NCFC? Apologies if I missed this, sitting in the Barclay it was slightly difficult to see some of the names. I think it would be a nice touch. Thanks.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. Images were shown on the big screen after all names had appeared. Some families did not want to submit images and this was the most effective way to ensure all names were included due to the volume.
I thought it was a marvellous idea and should be considered that this is an annual or bi annual event. It's a fabulous club to support and when you lose someone close the club can support you.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. This is something we will look to repeat on an annual basis.
The celebration of life was very moving indeed and a lovely idea in memory of fellow fans. Perhaps a bit longer so one can really have the time to see the person and digest a bit more. Just reinforces the family at the club. A lovely moment to be cherished. Thank you.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. As this occurred ahead of kick-off, a minutes’ applause was decided upon as this needs to be agreed by the league, the opposition and referee. A minute is the standard for similar processes. There was a memorial service on the same day for those who wished to attend.
I felt the celebration of life was a thoughtful idea and a great mark of respect. Sadly we lose people everyday, and in my opinion would be good if the club could do this more frequently, perhaps on a monthly basis which would capture celebrating people’s lives in real time. This would allow accompanying photos, and to remember people for a little longer than a quick flash of their names for a few seconds.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. A minutes’ applause has to be agreed by the league, the opposition and referee and is unlikely for this to be signed off on such a regular basis. We also feel it would take away from the day and be less poignant if this happened regularly. However, we will look to repeat this each season.

I was at the Coventry match & it was very moving & something that should be done annually, maybe at the last home game of the season?
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. This is something we will look to repeat on an annual basis at the first home game of each new calendar year.
The celebration of life was a lovely touch. Hope this could be an annual thing.

The celebration was very moving and perfect in tone. It was good that it was at kick off so that the stadium was full. Perhaps the names could have been read out too as well as them being on the screen.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. This suggestion will be considered for future events.
It was a lovely idea by the club, especially as I knew 2 of the people. Going forward I think it would be nice (even if at half time) to have bigger pictures of the individuals with their name on the screen. Well done though it is great to celebrate those who have been lifelong supporters of the club.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture. Images were shown on the big screen after all names had appeared. Some families did not want to submit images and this was the most effective way to ensure all names were included due to the volume and limited time to display during the minute.
Thought the Celebration of Life before the match was a great idea.
Club Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding our Celebration of Life fixture.
Love the celebration of life – total respect for them.

From the Trust:
The celebration of life was a lovely thing to do and really appreciated by the fans. Observations were as follows:
● If putting pictures in the programme, could, the names be put under the pictures so it easy to identify each person.
● Consider maybe doing a separate email to fans the day before match with pics & names and maybe a few brief notes about each person. E.g How long they supported the club etc.
● Big screen – again would have been nice to have pictures and names together as opposed to be separated.
● In the ‘Kick it off’ email sent out the evening before the Coventry match, I couldn’t see any information about the fixture being the ‘Celebration of Life fixture, or any information about what would be happening prior to the match like the service, laying of the wreath etc.
